![]() ![]() The integrated graphics for the CPU is called Intel HD Graphics 530, which deviates from previous version of Intel’s naming scheme. That being said we see DDR3L being used only on low-to-mid range products with the emphasis being placed on DDR4. Motherboard manufacturers can choose to support DDR4, DDR3L, or a mixture of these two technologies. The processor will support both DDR4 and DDR3L, whereby DDR3L is the 1.35 volt standard of DDR3 – no regular 1.5 volt DDR3 kits will be expected to work due to the high voltage. Motherboards that have x8/x4/x4 will only support dual-SLI in x8/x8 mode when the final x4 is unpopulated due to limitations placed on SLI by NVIDIA. So to clear up any pre-release ‘leaks’ or guesses as to the configuration of the platform, we have sixteen PCIe 3.0 lanes coming from the processor which can be split into an x16, x8/x8 or x8/x4/x4 configuration. ![]() This is the new diagram that yields a good amount of Z170 information: Due to this launch being a couple of weeks earlier than the motherboard manufacturers expected (even from Computex), not everything is 100% ready to go today - as a result we are still awaiting MSRP details for a lot of the products, but they should be on the shelves if not today then in the next couple of weeks. A lot of the detail about Z170 in this piece is mirrored in our main Skylake review as well.įor the motherboard information itself, this is the culmination of requests to the manufacturers who have mostly provided both pictures and specifications on the bulk of their ranges. We have been promised more detail about the system during the Intel Developer Forum in mid-August, to which both Ryan and I will be attending and asking plenty of questions. Intel’s details about the chipset have been some of the briefest we have experienced in any recent Intel launch, although we have been able to piece together various aspects of the design from a number of sources. In this piece we are going to look at both the Z170 chipset itself, the benefits that come along with using Z170, and then the motherboards that are set to launch equipped with it. The Z170 chipset itself represents a large jump in terms of IO design, driven by the growing need for diversification and utility on modern platforms. The Skylake processors use the LGA 1151 socket (which is new) combined with the Z170 chipset, meaning every motherboard manufacturer has been developing and putting together a whole stack of products to meet different price points and demand. Along with the launch of the two Skylake-K processors today, we also have a raft of new motherboards to go with them.

Take a look at our other guides to the best free password managers and the best password managers for business. With these five tips, you can ensure that you’re choosing the best password manager for your needs. But your password manager also has to be convenient enough for you to want to use it rather than go back to using a single password for everything. SummaryĪny well-built password manager will keep your account safe. If you’re using password management software in a team, keep in mind that different individuals may use different web browsers. Some only have Chrome and Firefox extensions, while others, such as Bitwarden, support less common browsers like Opera and Tor. Note that not all password managers offer support for all browsers. In that case, all you need is your single master password to log into all your online accounts. These are particularly helpful since extensions enable you to autofill login information as you access different sites. It’s also worth considering whether there are browser extensions available. If you have any Linux devices to connect, make sure that your password manager supports this operating system. Most popular password managers support Windows and Mac computers as well as Android and iOS mobile devices. Ideally, a password manager will work across all your devices. Is it compatible with your devices and browser? Some business password managers like Dashlane enable administrators to set up user groups and assign user permissions for different passwords. ![]() Some password managers enhance security by enabling you to send your encryption key separately from your encrypted password, preferably through a secure messenger.īusiness users may also want to consider whether a password manager offers user access management features. However, if you work in a team-for example, if you’re using a password manager at work-then the ability to share passwords easily can be a key feature to look for. Password sharing is tricky from a security standpoint because it potentially exposes your encryption key. Can you share your passwords?ĭashlane enables administrators to create user groups (Image credit: Dashlane) This requires you to re-enter your master password (and go through 2FA again) after you step away from the software for a few minutes. Relatedly, it’s a good idea to look for a password manager that has an auto-lockout timer. Plus, the text you receive about a login attempt serves as an alert that someone is trying to break into your account. With two-factor authentication enabled, a hacker might have your master password-but unless they also have your smartphone in hand, they still won’t be able to break into your password manager. The easiest way to defend against this is with 2FA (two-factor authentication). But how secure is your own computer? The most likely way for a bad actor to get their hands on your passwords is to go through the client-side interface on your device, such as by using malware that logs your keystrokes. Password manager providers generally put a lot of work into keeping their servers secure. LastPass offers 2FA for its password manager (Image credit: LastPass) Automatic password updating is also impossible within a zero-knowledge architecture. Password sharing is often impossible if zero-knowledge encryption is used, since you would necessarily need to transmit your encryption key to whomever you share your password with. The problem with zero-knowledge encryption is that it creates problems in other areas. ![]() ![]() As a result, even if your provider’s servers are breached, the hackers can only get their hands on encrypted versions of your passwords. The encryption key-your master password-is never hosted on the servers. Under this security architecture, your passwords are encrypted on your device before being transmitted over the internet to your provider’s servers. Many popular password managers, including LastPass, Dashlane, and Keeper, operate using zero-knowledge encryption. If you opt for a cloud-based password manager, it’s important to consider whether or not your provider actually has access to your password. With a cloud-based password manager, you can always recover your passwords from any device. But unless you have a backup, all of your passwords will be gone. The thief won’t be able to de-encrypt your data without your master password. The other problem is that if your device is stolen, your passwords are stolen with it. Some password managers, like mSecure and Sticky Password, get around this by enabling you to sync using your home Wi-Fi network. Without a cloud connection, it can be hard to sync your passwords across devices. However, local storage has some drawbacks. Headlamp transforming into a defined row of individual lights with HDR enabled. I was most impressed with how HDR impacted headlights, with the diffused glow of a Toggling HDR on and off throughout the demo, director Kazunori Yamauchi detailed how HDR and wide colour range had benefited the game, highlighting how Polyphony can finally render Ferraris in their actual colour rather than the fake red of old (a minor thing to most fans, but significant to others), and its impact on the overall look. Talking of HDR, Gran Turismo’s demo was the first time I’d truly been able to appreciate how much of a difference it can make to the overall look of a game. Oh, and its replays look extraordinary on a 4K HDR screen, too. It’s difficult to determine whether Pro actually improves performance over the standard PS4 – it’s possible that the standard PS4 version has been optimised since then, too – but the demo on display yesterday certainly left me with far more confidence in the game than the last one. 4K capabilities aside, the PS4 Pro demo of Gran Turismo Sport offered significant improvements to performance over May’s underwhelming demo, rid of that build’s tearing and aliasing, and sticking to its 60fps target far more consistently. FIFA 17 and Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare’s cleaner images are immediately noticeable, while graphical showcases Horizon: Zero Dawn and Uncharted 4 stun at higher res.īut it may not just be about resolution. Other games being demoed clearly benefit from the Pro’s improved resolution, too. In earnest, I’m not entirely sure how the two technologies differ, but the results remain fantastic, offering a crisp, clear image that is noticeably sharper than on a standard PS4. Ratchet & Clank, for example, uses an alternate technique called Temporal Injection to achieve higher resolution and full screen anti-aliasing. Interestingly, not all titles use Checkerboard Rendering to boost the image to 4K standard. Nevertheless, the ability to instantly switch between the three modes directly from the pause menu helped highlight quite how capable Sony’s Checkerboard Rendering is at delivering a convincing 4K-quality image over traditional upscaling methods. But on a 1080p display, it could be the preferred option to players who aren’t as bothered about frame rate, balancing a native 1080p output with, well, enriched visuals. Imagine, would suit most 4K owners needs far better. On a 4K display, I found Enriched Visuals to be the least appealing of the three – the 4K/30fps option, I Third option, too, a 1080p/30fps ‘Enriched Visuals’ mode, that offers enhanced shadows along with other improvements to detail. Switching to the ‘High Framerate’ option, though, leads to a noticeable drop in image quality, with the game appearing to up-res a standard 1080p image to 4K (albeit at an increased 60fps frame rate), while suffering from the usual upscaling effects you’ve come to expect from a sub-native render. Playing in the game’s ‘4K Resolution’ mode, the image pops with remarkable clarity, with Lara’s early Hidden Oasis sequence stunning in its higher resolution. It’s easiest to spot the differences in Rise of the Tomb Raider, one of the few Pro-enhanced games to include a variety of display modes. This isn’t the equivalent to playing a 720p game on a 1080p display: the results are far more pronounced, with a sharp, defined look and excellent image quality. Games enhanced for PS4 Pro look superb at 4K, with Sony’s ‘Checkerboard Rendering’ upscaling technique doing an excellent job at delivering a crisp, clear image on 4K displays. I’ve only ever upgraded once specifically to keep up with gaming – probably around the same time you did, when Xbox 360 delivered the jump to HD in 2005 – but I’m sorely tempted to do it again here. That said, the real question here may be whether you should upgrade to a 4K TV for PS4 Pro. Sadly, we’re going to have to wait until next week to find out the answers most of us are looking for there. Imagine, will be the case for most Pro-enhanced games outputting to a 1080p display, although many of the reps on hand yesterday weren’t too keen to go into specifics as to how exactly things are being improved for 1080p owners. ![]() And secondly, Ratchet & Clank will supersample its gorgeous 4K-quality image down to 1080p, delivering a cleaner image with full-screen anti-aliasing, but with no boost to frame rate. ![]() Firstly, Gran Turismo Sport on PS4 Pro will render replays at 60fps at 1080p, rather than the 30fps of a standard PS4. I was given some answers at a hands-on event in London yesterday, but the overall message remains unclear. What does PS4 Pro offer to 1080p TV owners? One week from launch and that’s a key question that has still largely gone unanswered. ![]() Read on for what’s new in the EA UFC 4 May 4 patch notes. Move down to Filter Control, turn on Warm Drive, set Cutoff to around 60 Hz and increase Keytrack to 3. While you’re at it have a play with the filter cutoff value to hear the kind of subtler back-in-the-mix style pads you can achieve with lower values. Increase Cutoff to 7 (around the 800Hz mark), Resonance to 3 and Drive to 7. We’re after a warm, gritty sound, so move to the Filter A panel (not to be confused with Filter Control, below it) and click/drag to select the Lowpass filter under Filter Type (this is the first option, with the curve shown below – if you’re in any doubt, check the central info screen). Increase Voices to 7 and select a sawtooth wave by clicking and dragging over the green backlit Wave graphic (you’ll know you’ve got a Saw by reading the display in the central info panel). Increase the number of Voices allocated to Oscillator A1 to 5 and lower the pitch by one octave. Under Polyphony (top left), increase the number of voices to 10.
